The Rector's Path
The Rectory in Churton was built some few hundred yards down the road from the church. In the bad old(?) days when local roads were seldom maintained and were always rough and muddy, the parson faced a dirty and difficult walk up the hill to hold services.
To ease his way, a cobbled path was constructed on the north side of the road. Since the roads were metalled, the Rector's Path has been lost but when the village hall gateway was altered in 2000, a section was rediscovered and restored. Look carefully when you next visit the hall and you can see the path crossing the gateway.
